Benefits of Vitamin C
Vitamin C is something that everyone should be taking daily. Mostly, people know it as an immune booster and start taking it regularly in the winter months, but it is so much more.
Vitamin C is a great antioxidant that: helps prevent cancer, enhances immunity, reduces the chance of getting cataracts, helps heal wounds and burns and helps with the formation of collagen (Dr. Oz recommended in facial creams).
The list doesn’t end there but what I really want to talk about is how to get the most out of taking vitamin C supplements.
I recommend taking vitamin C in an esterified form. Esterified vitamin C enters the blood stream and tissue faster than regular vitamin C, and it stays in the tissue longer. Solgar and American Health call their vitamin C, “Ester-C” because it is an esterified form.
Take your vitamin C along with vitamin E. Vitamin E is a great antioxidant that works in cell membranes while vitamin C works in the body fluids surrounding cells.
Since vitamin C is water soluble, take vitamin C in divided doses during the day. Smoking or taking oral contraceptives depletes vitamin C in your body.
And, maybe the most important, take vitamin C along with bioflavoniods. Bioflavonoids increase the absorption of vitamin C. You can buy ester-C and bioflavonoids together. American Health is one of many companies that sells it together because of the benefits. Bioflavonoids in supplements usually come from citrus fruits and rose hips.
